A couple weeks ago I heard a sermon at church about giving your first fruits to God, rather than what you had leftover. I\u2019d love to quote the Bible verse, but that\u2019s just not happening…mostly because I\u2019m not very good at finding Bible verses. Even with Google. That\u2019s something that I\u2019m working on.<\/p>\n
But the concept of giving first fruits got me to thinking about other places where we ought to be giving our best, rather than what\u2019s left. As a family guy…the blog is titled Hectic Dad…I started to think about my interactions with my family. It dawned on me that they often get what I\u2019ve got leftover, not the best part of my energy and my day.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m officed out of our house, so it\u2019s sometimes really hard to separate work from home life. It\u2019s really tempting to sit go to my office at any time and work away. Then when I\u2019m done, usually tired or at least mentally fatigued, I go back to where the family is. And I offer up with little I have left to them.<\/p>\n
Honestly, it\u2019s a bad habit that I need to break.<\/p>\n
So I\u2019m thinking about how to restructure my days and my interactions so that my wife, kids, and mom get more of my quality time. More of the time when I have energy. More of the kind of interaction that is fulfilling and entertaining. In short, more of my first time fruits.<\/p>\n
